  1. Slip Slidin' Away at Mountain Mist

    Run 100 Miles &bull Jan 30, 2012

Apparently this has been the 7th rainiest month in Huntsville history and leading up to the Mountain Mist 50K, chatter was developing on the social networks, running lists and face-to-face conversations concerning the conditions of the Monte Sano trails for Saturday's race. It appears, and I say appears 'cuz I'm known for flip-flopping completely like I never actually learned a damn thing, but it APPEARS that I'm finally starting to understand pacing better -- and its all because of this pesky ankle injury. But, the injury forces me to take races easy. I'm constantly concerned about the weakened ankle, and… Full Story »

  2. Joe Fejes Guest Blog: ATY 72 Hour Race Report

    Run 100 Miles &bull Jan 6, 2012

As many in the ultraunning community have heard, Georgia runner (and swell pal) Joe Fejes ran a fantastic race at this year's Across The Years 72-hour race. Dude ripped off 280 miles, winning the event, and exciting all of us… Full Story »

  3. Skarfing - A Visual Food Log Experiment

    Run 100 Miles &bull Jan 1, 2012

While I didn't clobber every race goal I had, I nailed a few gems that offered a glimmer of hope that I can continue the quest for improved athletic performances. So check it - about the food thing - I… Full Story »

  4. I Can't Keep It In

    Run 100 Miles &bull Nov 4, 2011

After a challenging training run this morning, I found myself listening to a little Cat Stevens, and every single song that came on made me somehow apply the sentiments to running. The night before training, I lay in bed and… Full Story »

  5. Natural Vitality Products Review

    Run 100 Miles &bull Nov 2, 2011

Per my previous blog update: "After a recent race, I received an email from a nutrition company representative asking if I would be interested in trying their Natural Vitality sports nutritional products" And so I did. The Natural Vitality Products… Full Story »

  6. A 5K Race Report?

    Run 100 Miles &bull Sep 12, 2011

When I stumbled back to the bed, our 120lb pit-bull mixed breed female had moved from the foot of the bed, where she takes all my feet-room each and every night, to the little bit of of space I do manage to… Full Story »

  7. Lessons Learned at UTMB

    Run 100 Miles &bull Sep 4, 2011

But, what I lacked was a real frame of reference for racing in a glacial mountain range, with its rapidly-changing and unpredictable weather conditions, and that proved to be the catalyst that shook me to the breaking point and ended my race after close to 50 miles. Other than Fuego Y Agua in Nicaragua, UTMB is the most incredible event in which I have ever participated, and like Fuego's report, this report too will be probably be long and a little emotional, but I just can't help that. As I sit here, overlooking a street that carries runners through the… Full Story »

  8. Trotting Hotter at White River

    Run 100 Miles &bull Aug 12, 2011

And sneaking up on me was the Hot to Trot 8-hour, the following weekend, where at least my wife was going to be chasing her first official ultra distance, so I expected to have something clever there but again, nothing. Sure, I had a goal to beat the Mad Mexican at… Full Story »

  9. The Black Mountain Monster

    Run 100 Miles &bull Jun 20, 2011

You show up, find your cabin, your bunk, your counselor, and then you sorta eye-ball a bunch of other kids during various activities deciding who you wanna hang with, and who you wanna avoid. I have to take a moment to mention Mikey Melton was there, too. If you are an ultrarunner, you most likely… Full Story »

  10. Simple Completion for Self-Confidence

    Run 100 Miles &bull Jun 1, 2011

But, the race draws a lot from Florida, and if you live in Florida, you're already heat trained; but I don't think anyone truly "trains" on US1 (the Florida Highway), 'cuz, uh. For all that noise though, the Keys 100 stands out as one of my favorite events. Race Director, Bob Becker, is really one of the nicest dudes around. I mean, there are some nice dudes, but Bob is like, painfully, nice and its evident that he pours himself into his races. I'm a beach dude. Period. I run the Keys 100 because it gives me a chance to… Full Story »
