ICY-8 Adventure Trail Run
Run Bulldog Run &bull Feb 6, 2012
Just wanted to take a few moments to jot down some thoughts on yesterday's ICY-8 Adventure Trail Race - another great event put on by the Athletic Equation guys. The event took place at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, Virginia on a 90%-trail looped course. The race was unique in that you could either choose to run a short loop (4.7 miles with about 350ft of elevation gain/loss), or the longer 8 mile loop with about 640ft elevation gain/loss. The first loop had to be run clockwise, but after that you were free to choose any direction and either… Full Story »

Review - CEP Compression Socks
Run Bulldog Run &bull Jan 17, 2012
Continuing the gear review theme on the blog, I was recently approached by the marketing folks at Sports Compression asking if I'd be interested in trying out some of their compression gear. The product I received from Sports Compression was a Classic Design Running Compression Sock - color white/orange, size III, which is suitable for calf sizes 12.5 through 15. CEP Compression… Full Story »

A Selection of Socks
Run Bulldog Run &bull Jan 15, 2012
Bear with me as I take this blog on a slightly different route. In recent months companies have been willing to send stuff my way for testing, so I've decided to throw in a few gear reviews from time to time. We'll start off with the humble running sock. My favorite running sock for the past 4 or 5 years has been the excellent Balega Hidden Comfort - a fairly basic cushioned sock with hand-linked seamless toes and mesh construction for added ventilation. The local running store, Running Etc., originally clued me in on Balegas, and they've been the first… Full Story »

2012 Ragnar Relay Florida Keys
Run Bulldog Run &bull Jan 12, 2012
Time for a quick summary of my 40+ miles at the 2012 Ragnar Relay Florida Keys. I was Runner #2 on the "Where's the Damn Van?" We chose to run 3 back-to-back legs each. Leg 3 - 3.1 miles easy: pretty much a straight shot west along 56th Street to the exchange point at Tropical Park.Leg 4 - 5.2 miles moderate: after leaving Tropical Park it was just a few miles north on 82nd, followed by just over 3 miles west on 24th Street to Tamiami Park. Pace was good on my opening double-header. Probably started a little quick in… Full Story »

That Was The Weekend That Was
Run Bulldog Run &bull Nov 23, 2011
Saturday - bit of a last minute decision to run the Carter Gunn Stressbuster 8K at First Landing State Park, but I'm glad I did. The course was more challenging than a road race, and made a pleasant change from your usual Saturday morning 5K or 10K. We started at the picnic shelter nearest the Shore Drive entrance to FLSP and made our way towards the main Cape Henry trail where we took a sharp right turn. At Kingfisher we… Full Story »

The Gibbet 50
Run Bulldog Run &bull Oct 10, 2011
Course Description: Using all marked trails throughout First Landing State Park, runners will make two full 25 mile loops. Trails are primarily flat with varying terrain (sand, pine needles, wooden bridges, tree roots). Mostly runnable, there are a few sections that have technical short steep hills. Stunning water and trails views along the way. Terrain - 95% trail, 5% road. Not sure where to start with this to be honest. I'd been *thinking* about this event for a while, but only signed up a couple of days before the race was due to take place. With the Cardiff Half Marathon… Full Story »

12-HR Adventure Trail Race
Run Bulldog Run &bull Sep 13, 2011
Prince William Forest Park was the venue for my fourth Ultra event of 2011 - the 12-HR Adventure Trail Race, directed by the excellent Athletic Equation guys. The course was slightly less challenging than the 24-HR ATR earlier this year, and featured a 6.5 figure eight loop made up mainly of single track and fire road. The terrain was a mix of rocks, roots, dirt with a few muddy spots thrown in for good measure. There were plenty of ups and downs to "keep the runners honest" throughout the race. The race was due to start in darkness at 6:15am.… Full Story »
