2012 US Open Press Conf, 1/26: Asafa Powell, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Nesta Carter and Dawn Harper, release, notes by Larry Eder
RunBlogRun &bull Jan 28, 2012Asafa Powell told RBR that he wants to be "around long enough to double my number of sub ten second 100 meter races." For Asafa, it is all about the respect. Fit, he should do well at the US Open over 50 meters, as his race is all about his start. Veronica Campbell-Brown loves to compete. VCB was not surprised by her fast 100 meters in Ostrava last year, she just saw things she could improve! Nesta Carter is one of the best sprinters in the world. He just happens to be from Jamaica and is running with Yohan Blake,… Full Story »

Mo Farah running Great North CityGames, by Alfons Juck, note by Larry Eder
RunBlogRun &bull Sep 12, 2011Mo Farah came back from Daegu, Korea a changed distance runner. Earning two WC medals, a silver in the 10,000 meters and a gold medal in a very tough 5,000 meters, Farah is one of the most popular distance runners around the globe, with his fine running in Daegu and his racing over the past several years. Farah ran to the wire in the 10,000 meters, getting nipped by Ibrahim Jeilan of Ethiopia. Coming back in the 5,000 meters, in my mind, a much tougher race, Mo Farah ran a tough last 1,000 meters and got the jump on Lagat,… Full Story »

Harting throws 66.50m, Heidler goes 77.53m, by Alfons Juck, note by Larry Eder
RunBlogRun &bull Sep 10, 2011Robert Harting is the 2009 and now, 2011 World Champion in the discus. I was lucky enough to observe Robert early in the season, around Roma and FBK Hengelo. Harting obviously has a great sense of humor, but his jovial nature post event hides an extremely competitive athlete, who, like most throws, is wanting for that perfect throw. Each time I would congratulate Robert on a throw, he would note that the throw was not " far enough". Robert knew that Daegu, his focus, would be difficult and as it should have been, the World Champs was the total focus… Full Story »

Tim Layden: Bolt shows greatness again
SI.com Wires: Track and Field &bull Sep 3, 2011
He gave us all the usual pieces, like an actor in a long-running play delivering his lines or Skynyrd doing Free Bird back in the day. On a late summer night, he looked at the video board when his name was announced, slicked his eyebrows, shot the lightning bolt pose and then tossed off some martial arts moves. Then he came racing down the straightaway of a running track far from his home in Jamaica, looked left and right and then bared his teeth. He hit the finish line first, glanced at the clock and then slowed to a stop,… Full Story »

RunBlogRun &bull Jul 6, 2011Usain Bolt is in Paris! And of course, the media is in a feeding frenzy, but that is the key to promoting a major meet! Feed the beast! SI.com Wires: Track and Field &bull Jun 26, 2011
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- One by one, a generation of American track and field's best athletes slowed at the finish, pulled up lame and failed to find their fastest gear. By the time the week was over, Walter Dix was among the few who looked ready to take on the world. Dix completed the 100-200 double at U.S. track championships Sunday, meaning he'll be the headliner on the… Full Story »
